Redesigned my site

Hey everyone. I didn't get to do any photography this weekend, but I did get around to redesigning my website. This is something that I've wanted to do for a while but I haven't had the time to devote to it, with schoolwork and all going on. Anyway, I got around to it this weekend and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. The weather forecasted isn't all that great for the next few days... freezing rain, thunderstorms, and high winds! I do hope I get one nice day because I've found a spot in Albany I'm interested in checking out. I've got a lot of stuff going on right now. I'm trying to figure out where I really want to be heading with my major and what kind of job I would like to have. I am also trying to fit in a semester abroad in the spring of 2009. If everything comes together as I hope it does, I might be in Australia that semester. I'm thinking I probably want to do some form of environmental engineering when I get out of school - working on geothermal or wind power, or something involving the environment and reducing our impact.

RPI's new building EMPAC

RPI is still in the midst of construction on their latest project EMPAC, the "Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center". I must say that from their concept designs and the way it looks so far, I am pretty excited for the building to be finished (it is supposed to be completed in October of this year). Anyway, I joined the photography staff on the Polytechnic, RPI's student run newspaper. They needed a shot of the EMPAC building for their next weekly issue, so I went out and did that. I think I'll be shooting a lot more for the Poly in the future.

Yesterday I found a great blog about photography and travelling. The photographer, Steven Frischling, flies almost constantly all over the world to do editorial and wedding work. What I found particularly interesting is that "Steven flew around the world 1.5 times in only 5 days carrying just a single legal carryon backpack (in August 2007)". Just travelling around the world for 5 days with a carryon backpack is impressive enough, but to do the same while meeting clients and doing photo shoots along the way is incredible. Not to mention the fact that he had to pack in all his photo gear, leaving even less room for personal items. Anyway, his work is very good and you should check out his blog.

I've got a lot going on this week, but I hope to do some photography on Friday and this weekend, so check back for some updates then.

Frear Park

Today I went to Frear Park, just a short 2 min drive from my house (and somewhere I'd never even been before). I was actually just checking out google earth and I thought this looked like a nice close by area, so I headed over there. Unfortunately it was really windy and pretty cold. I'm pretty sick of the winter and it looks like this week isn't going to be much nicer than the last one - a high of 44 for the whole week and possible snow. Anyway, today was a fun day of shooting albeit the weather, and I got a few photos I'm pleased with. Frear Park is essentially just a golf course with some nice paved walkways snaking through the course. I found the trees especially interesting and ended up basically just shooting photos of them. There was not a single cloud in the sky, so the sunset ended up being a pretty pale one, but it was a fun trip. Theres quite a lot of ground to cover in the park so I'm sure I'll be back there sometime soon. I did play around with the second image a bit to try to convert it to an "old time" look. Enjoy!

Welcome

I decided to create a blog to showcase some of my photography. My goal is to update this blog frequently and after every shoot that I go on. I hope you enjoy reading and viewing my photographs.
